    Why direct beats the OTAs, how the trust-account model protects owners, and the system behind ~45% direct nights.

    When a guest books through an OTA, the platform takes a cut coming and going — a guest service fee that inflates the price (making your listing look more expensive) and, on some models, a host fee that shrinks your take. Move that same booking direct and:

    • The guest pays less for the identical stay (they skip the ~16–20% service fee), and
    • You keep more of every dollar, and
    • You own the relationship — the email, the rebooking, the referral.

    Why direct is safer for owners here, not just cheaper

    There's a trust angle people miss. When Wyo Stays takes a direct booking, it runs through a licensed Wyoming brokerage with a dedicated trust account — guest funds are accounted for, kept separate, and owed back to you, backed by errors-and-omissions insurance and real regulatory oversight.     3. Capture the relationship — get them onto your list and show them the direct option for next time.
    4. Rebook them direct — where they pay less and you keep more.
    5. Compound it with referrals and repeat stays.

    Every first-time OTA guest is a candidate to become a lifetime direct guest. That conversion is the playbook.

    1. A real direct-booking site with a live booking engine — not a "call us" page. Friction kills direct.
    2. A visible price advantage — show the savings vs OTA plainly (a savings calculator does this well).
    3. Superhost/Premier social proof carried onto your own site — reviews travel.
    4. Email capture at every touch: booking, stay, checkout, and content (this vault is itself a capture engine).
    5. A post-stay rebooking sequence — the templated emails that invite guests back direct (included in the gated playbook).
    6. Repeat-guest perks — a direct-only rate, early access, or a small loyalty gesture.
    7. Local authority content — trip guides and local recs that make your brand the trusted source, so guests start at your site, not a search box.

    Your cheapest booking is the one from a guest you already delighted.
